Band of Brothers - GM6

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: What does "GM6" stand for?

A: The name GM6 is actually an abbreviation of the military phrase “Got My 6.” Got My 6 is a simple check to be sure each soldier has someone watching his blind spot (represented as the 6 o’clock position on a clock) while in a dangerous area. In other words, it is best understood as a call to be sure each soldier avoids a venture into the combat zone alone and unprotected.

Q: How can I get involved in a GM6 group?

A: Put on your big boy pants and ask. Ask your Sunday Bible Study Director or Men's Coordinator in that class to help you get involved with a GM6 group.

Q: What is the difference between a Bible study small group
and GM6?

A: A Bible Study is an intentional meeting to examine and meditate on a Scripture-driven topic to gain knowledge and understanding of God's Scripture. GM6 is an intentional meeting with the goal of transformation through accountability, commitment, and encouragement utilizing scripture and wisdom through peer experience. One friend put it like this: "In a Bible study, I don't care if you get it...in GM6 I care if you grasp it. It matters because you matter to God. Your life depends on it."

Q: How is GM6 different from an accountability group?

A: In the past, men utilized accountability with mixed reviews. Unfortunately, growth in Christ was not the centerpiece of that approach. This left men dejected and many embarked on the journey alone. Every man needs accountability but not every man will participate because of the negative connotations of accountability. The purpose of GM6 is transformation in Christ utilizing accountability and encouragement. Our goal is to allow GM6 members to encourage and build godly men more than tear each other down.

Depart, depart, go out from there! Touch no unclean thing! Come out from it and be pure, you who carry the vessels of the LORD. But you will not leave in haste or go in flight; for the LORD will go before you, the God of Israel will be your rear guard.
