Gregg MatteSenior Pastor

Gregg married Kelly in 1997. They have one son, Greyson, born in 2001, and one daughter, Valerie, born in 2008. He graduated from Texas A&M University in 1992, and Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in 1999.
On April 11, 2004, Gregg was chosen to serve as Pastor of Houston’s First Baptist Church by a congregational vote following a nearly four and a half year search.
Prior to becoming our Pastor, Gregg served as the founder, speaker, and director of Breakaway Ministries at Texas A&M University. Breakaway continues to be a strong and vibrant ministry to college students, with over 4,000 in attendance each Tuesday night, as well as countless viewers on live-feed via the internet.
Throughout his ministry, Gregg has also used his spiritual gifts to preach and teach at conferences, camps, and retreats. He is the author of The Highest Education: Becoming a Godly Man and is the executive producer of numerous praise and worship CDs for Breakaway Ministries.
As Pastor, Gregg has five areas of focus: Preaching/teaching, Vision-casting, Personnel Leadership and Shepherding.

David SelfExecutive Pastor

David married Bonnie in 1973. They have two grown sons, Adam and Tyler. He graduated from Houston Baptist University in 1973, Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in 1976, and Fuller Theological Seminary in 1988.
David has served as Associate Pastor since 1998. From 1999 to 2004, he served as Interim Administrator while HFBC was in search of a Pastor. Prior to these roles, he served as Minister of Education overseeing and teaching adults. He is also a Senior Clinic Teacher for Evangelism Explosion.
Before coming to HFBC, David served as Minister of Education at Rehoboth Baptist Church in Tucker, GA; Minister of Evangelism and Young Adults at First Southern Baptist Church in Del City, OK; Minister of Youth at Plymouth Park Baptist Church in Irving, TX; and Minister of Youth right here at HFBC.
David has also used his spiritual gifts of teaching and preaching at conferences, camps, revivals, and conventions. He has trained and led Partnership Crusade teams and authored several books and articles. He serves on the Board of Evangelism Explosion and the North American Mission Board.
As Executive Pastor, David Self is responsible for the overall program, staff, and administration. He is the liaison to the Finance and Personnel Committees.

William TaylorMissions Pastor

William Taylor has served as the Missions Pastor since February of 1997 here at Houston's First Baptist Church. He has been married to Nancy Taylor for 28 years and they have two children: William III a recent graduate of
Houston Baptist University and Sarah Taylor, a senior at Texas A&M.
William graduated from Columbia Bible College in 1978 and Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in 1983.
Prior to joining the staff, in 1980 he began his service with the International Evangelism Association and directed a college training program in West Texas for 10 years during the summer. Simultaneously, he served 12 years as Director of University Ministries at Southwest Baptist University in Bolivar, Missouri. During his tenure at Southwest Baptist University the missions program grew and a missions center was built which also been
duplicated here at Houston's First.
Since his tenure began he has continued his focus on field training future leaders among the members of First Baptist including high school and college students nationwide.
William overseas the Prayer, Missions & Connection Center, Christian Life Center, the Missions Training Center at Long Point, & Woodhaven Baptist Deaf Church.

Jason SwiggartMinistries Pastor

Jason married Paige in 1991. They have three sons: Chambers, Harrison, and Preston. He graduated from Baylor University in 1987 and Southwestern Theological Seminary in 1990.
Jason has served as HFBC's Minister to Married Young Adults, as well as Program Coordinator and Worship/Music Ministry Staff Leader. Prior to coming to HFBC, Jason served as Minister to Students at Kingsland Baptist Church in Katy, TX, and Associate Minister to Students at Tallowood Baptist Church in Houston.
Jason has also used his spiritual gifts at retreats, conferences, and to train and teach others in the Word of God and godly living.
His passion is for building strong, Christ-centered marriages and families, and helping individuals come to know Jesus Christ, continue to grow in love for God and worship Him with all their being.

Stephen Smith
Worship Pastor

Stephen married Star in 1994. They have three children: Madison, Jackson, and Hope--and are expecting their fourth! He attended Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary and graduated from Houston Baptist University in 2007.
Stephen has a long history with HFBC. He was the Associate Student Minister from 1995–1998 and also worked with the Music/Worship ministry. He was there at the launch of the Gathering service more than 10 years ago and led worship at the Ascend service with Star when it launched in 2005. Stephen also served as the Minister to Students from 1998–2002 at Kingsland Baptist Church in Katy. He began directing the Momentum Ministry Group in 2002, and most recently, he served as the Worship Pastor at First Baptist Irving.
In his role at HFBC, Stephen gives leadership to and oversees the Choral Director, Praise Band Director and Production Director. This structure allows him to provide broad vision and direction for the Music/Worship Ministry, and enables the three directors to give dedicated time and expertise to their respective areas.
