What We Believe

WORSHIP through SONG

God-centered worship through song happens in a variety of different musical styles. If expressed in terms of language, our varying styles of music, liturgy, and the spoken word during a worship time all culminate in a “common tongue” that the church speaks to the Lord.

Just as in the English language, worship has many different accents or dialects. The New Yorker and the South African are able to communicate even though the words sound dissimilar. The heart of the God-centered worshipper knows, through the Holy Spirit, what is being said even if what is coming from the platform might not sound like it does in the neighborhood they are from.

Our aim is to speak worship with clarity and with quality so that all can respond to God for who He is and what He has done.

Join A Team

Choir

The Choir at Houston’s First is an electrifying musical group that consists of over 200 people who love to use their voices to lead God’s people in worship. Led by John Bolin, this Choir that leads in the 9:30a service at Houston’s First Baptist Church is a committed group of people who believe that their purpose is to exalt the name of the Lord Jesus Christ, to lead God’s people in authentic worship, and to communicate salvation to the lost and encourage to the believer. Come and join us for a Rehearsal this Wednesday night at 7-8:30p in the Rehearsal Hall (2nd floor above Main Foyer).

Orchestra

Welcome from The Orchestra at Houston’s First Baptist Church. The Houston's First Orchestra is comprised of both dedicated professional musicians and skilled amateur players who use their instrumental talents to serve the Lord through the worship ministry of Houston’s First Baptist Church. The HFBC Orchestra practices each Wednesday night from 7-8:30p in preparation for Sunday’s worship services, seasonal specials, mission concerts and other exciting worship opportunities. Currently, the Orchestra is looking to add players in the following areas: Harp and Strings.

The Orchestra at Houston’s First, represents an exciting worship program for those with advanced instrumental training to serve the Lord and be a part of the music ministry at Houston's First while continuing to enjoy the opportunity to perform on an instrument.

Singers

The Singers at Houston's First are a group of lead worshipers who serve in the 11a service with the purpose of ushering the congregation before the throne of God. While working as a team with the 11a bands, our prayer is that many will come to know the Lord through worship, and ultimately, that believers would draw closer in their walk with Him. In rehearsal, we place strong emphasis on practicing worship, so that the melody and the heart are in unison on Sunday mornings. Come join us on Wednesday nights from 7-8:30p in Room 337 (Creative Suite)!

Bands

Stephen Smith is the point man for all our bands here at Houston's First. At present we have "band teams" that are spread out in ministry all across the church. Whether they are leading worship in for our Student Ministry, Children's Ministry, or 11a worship service, each team and their leadership, is committed to service and a heart that beats to serve God through the arts. If you play and instrument, there is a good chance we can find a place of service for you.

High 5 Kids' Choirs

High 5 Kids’ Choirs is a choir program for preschool and elementary age kids. Each week High 5 features amazing activities, cool music, and a chance for kids of all ages to learn to love the arts! High 5 meets on Wednesdays during the school year from 6-7p. PreK-Kindergarten meet in The Clubhouse (Rm 303); 1st-5th Grades meet in The Loft (Rm 301). Join in during the summer with Summer Week of Choir, an energy-packed musical day camp for kids who have completed K-5th Grades.

School of Fine Arts

Opened in August 2011, the School of Fine Arts at Houston's First Baptist Church will offer instruction in many disciplines to develop each student's God-given talents and abilities to their fullest potential for service in ministry, their profession, or simply for personal enjoyment. The School will provide children and adults, whether beginners or experts, with the highest quality education in music and the arts with instruction from Christian professionals and artists.
