Houston’s First: a Relevant Biblical Community

Our Signature Statement

Houston’s First is where we Gather Our Hearts, Grow Our Souls, and Give Our Lives as we seek to fulfill the Great Commission.

Go, therefore, and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe everything I have commanded you. And remember, I am with you always, to the end of the age.
Matthew 28:19-20 (CSB)

FAQs about Membership

Membership at Houston’s First is open to anyone who has placed their faith in Jesus Christ alone for the forgiveness of sins and has been baptized by immersion by a body of believers.

In joining a church you make visible your commitment to Christ and his people and making a commitment makes a powerful statement in a low-commitment culture. When we join a church we are offering ourselves to one another to be encouraged, rebuked, corrected, and served. We are saying, “I am here to stay. I want to help you grow in godliness. Will you help me to do the same?” Members of Houston’s First are more fully able to serve on a PATHMAKER team as well as to vote at Church Conference, helping make decisions that impact the finances and membership of HFBC.

The doctrinal statement of Houston’s First is called the “Baptist Faith & Message” and is shared by thousands of Southern Baptist Churches around the nation. Find more about our beliefs about The Scriptures, God, Salvation and more here.

Central Support offices for Houston’s First Baptist Church are located at the Loop Campus at 7401 Katy Fwy which include Human Resources, Finance, Security, Communications, and more. The main office hours are M-Th 8:30a-4:30p. Each campus has their own office as well and are open M-Th.

Houston’s First Baptist Church was founded in 1841 and was originally located in Downtown Houston. We relocated to the Loop Campus location at 7401 Katy Fwy in 1970. The Cypress and Sienna Campuses opened in 2012. In 2014, Houston’s First returned to downtown Houston when we transformed a space near the Toyota Center into our Downtown Campus.

  • Talk with a staff member or PATHMAKER at the end of a worship service or attend a Make It Your Church session (hosted 4-5 times a year)
  • Meet the requirements for membership: Placed your faith in Jesus Christ alone for the forgiveness of your sins, been baptized by immersion, and agree with the church’s statements of faith and bylaws.
  • Be baptized by immersion. If you have not been baptized, a staff member at your campus can schedule a time for you to make this public profession of your faith. If you were baptized by immersion at another church or body of believers, our team will confirm it is of like faith and practice and that you were in good standing.
