Make It Your Church
“Where you can learn more about your next step at Houston’s First.”
At Houston’s First, Make It Your Church (MIYC) is a welcoming gathering designed to help you discover how to become a part of something bigger than yourself. Our mission is simple: to connect the disconnected, help people like you know others, be known, and experience a genuine sense of belonging. Here, you will find a community that cares deeply about you, a place where you can experience family, serve in meaningful ways, and grow spiritually.
The purpose of MIYC is to give every guest the information they need to prayerfully consider their next step at Houston’s First. Whether you are exploring church for the first time or looking to deepen your involvement, MIYC is your guide.
Offered over lunch or dinner, this gathering gives you the chance to meet our pastors and staff. They will share the vision, mission, and strategy of Houston’s First and walk you through the Make It Your Church booklet. During MIYC, you will learn how to find your place to gather, grow, and give, while also connecting with other new guests.
At MIYC, we will review key content from the booklet and provide space for you to take your next steps. There are three main areas where we help people get connected:
- Church Membership – Become part of our church family.
- Life Bible Study (LBS) and Community Groups – Grow in faith alongside others.
- Areas of Service – Use your gifts to make a difference.
A healthy member of Houston’s First engages in all three: they gather in worship, participate in a Life Bible Study and Community Group, and serve others.
MIYC is not about pressure or performance, and it is not about having everything figured out. It is simply a space to learn, ask questions, and explore what it means to be an active member of our church family. You do not have to be “ready” for anything big, just willing to take a step. Whatever that next step may be, we are here to walk alongside you. Our heart is that no one at Houston’s First feels disconnected, alone, or unseen.
We look forward to helping you find your place and make Houston’s First your church.
Matthew 28:19-20 (CSB)
“Go, therefore, and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe everything I have commanded you. And remember, I am with you always, to the end of the age.”
Frequently Asked Questions
Who can become a member of Houston’s First Baptist Church?
Membership at Houston’s First is open to anyone who has placed their faith in Jesus Christ alone for the forgiveness of sins and has been baptized by immersion by a body of believers.
Why should I become a member of the church?
In joining a church, you make visible your commitment to Christ and his people, and committing makes a powerful statement in a low-commitment culture. When we join a church, we are offering ourselves to one another to be encouraged, rebuked, corrected, and served. We are saying, “I am here to stay. I want to help you grow in godliness. Will you help me to do the same?” Members of Houston’s First are more fully able to serve on a PATHMAKER team and vote at Church Conference, helping make decisions that impact the finances and membership of HFBC.
How do I become a member?
- Talk with a staff member or PATHMAKER at the end of a worship service or attend a Make It Your Church session (hosted 4-5 times a year).
- Meet the requirements for membership: Placed your faith in Jesus Christ alone for the forgiveness of your sins, been baptized by immersion, and agree with the church’s statements of faith and bylaws.
- Be baptized by immersion. If you have not been baptized, a staff member at your campus can schedule a time for you to make this public profession of your faith. If you were baptized by immersion at another church or body of believers, our team will confirm that it is of like faith and practice and that you were in good standing.
