What I Almost Didn’t Do
What else do you need to believe?

Stepping out in faith can change a life.

Whether it’s inviting someone to coffee, sharing a kind gesture, or having a Gospel conversation that plants a seed, the Lord uses our obedience in ways we may never expect. In this series, the staff of Houston’s First share their own stories of the nerves, the Holy Spirit’s nudge, and what happened when they said yes.

Who is the Lord asking you to reach out to today? Read on, and let this story encourage you to take that step.

………………………..

Scripture encourages believers to be equally yoked, walking alongside people who share their faith and are headed in the same direction. Yet, sometimes, God leads us down a path we never would have planned.

For one of our staff members, her path began in Summit, our young singles ministry at The Loop Campus, when she became friends with a guy who did not yet know Jesus. She almost avoided the friendship altogether. Time alone could be risky, and her friends warned her about getting too close.

While she knew it might look unwise, the Holy Spirit had given her a conviction she could not ignore. She cared more about his salvation than about how things appeared, even if it looked like she was not “guarding her heart.”

Soon, God led the two of them to serve together at a rehab facility, where they started a Bible study and watched the Lord work in miraculous ways. Through it all, their friendship grew.

Yet, he was still wrestling with his own questions. He had read more than ten apologetics books in three months, searching for answers. Then one day, as they sat in her car, she asked, “What more do you need to believe?” Right there, he gave his life to Christ.

After he came to faith, the two officially began dating, but his story did not stop there. He was baptized at Houston’s First and later became a director of a Summit class, using his testimony to encourage and equip those walking in similar seasons.

Although they did not get married, God used that season to teach her something she carries with her still. She got to witness a friend come to know Christ, and she learned that when God leads, even an unconventional step can be used a hundredfold.
