Metro: Where Young Adults Encounter Jesus
What is Metro?
Metro is a weekly gathering in Houston where young adults in their 20s and 30s come together to worship Jesus, study Scripture, and grow in authentic community. Meeting on Tuesday nights at 7:30p, Metro exists to help young adults see the beauty of Jesus and seek to know him personally.
A Growing Hunger for God
Over the past year, there has been a clear and growing hunger for God’s presence. Week after week, young adults show up with expectation. As Metro Creative Lead Jilliane Velazco shared, “People are genuinely excited and bought-in to the mission and ministry of Metro… because God is meeting them there.”
Through heartfelt worship, exegetical teaching, and authentic community, Metro has become a space where people feel free to seek Jesus honestly and personally.
Lives Being Transformed
One attendee shared with Minister to Singles and Metro Venue Pastor Brandon Ayers, that he had recently given his life to Christ. During an Interlude service, he experienced something profound, as it was the first time he truly felt able to turn from habitual sin and pursue holiness. He described the message as feeling deeply personal, as if it were spoken directly to him, marking the first time he sensed God moving in his heart in such a real and transformative way.
Stories like this are not uncommon. Whether during powerful testimony nights or Interlude gatherings, there is a tangible sense that God is at work. This is evident as individuals come forward to the altar in surrender, kneeling in prayer, and as groups gather together to seek Him.
God is Moving
Since the beginning of the year, the prayer has been simple: that Metro would be a place where young adults could encounter Jesus and worship Him authentically. This prayer is being answered, as many describe Metro as a space where they can intentionally pursue God’s presence alongside their peers. As a result, many return each week expectant of what God will do in each of their lives.
This movement is also multiplying through service. Each semester, young adults who have been impacted by Metro step into volunteering, committing their time and energy to serve others and advance the mission. Their willingness reflects a deeper transformation, as lives would not only be changed, but would also be mobilized.
A United Community
The community at Metro is uniquely diverse, bringing together young adults from over 185 churches across Houston. For many, it becomes a place of connection, especially for those new to the city. At Metro, they find both community and direction, whether that means returning to their home churches encouraged and equipped, or getting rooted in a new local church body.
Metro exists not as a replacement for the Church, but as a catalyst: uniting young adults in worship and equipping them to be sent out.
What’s Ahead
Looking ahead, the vision is deeper still. The prayer is not only for powerful Tuesday nights, but for lives marked by daily intimacy with Jesus; that worship would extend beyond a gathering into everyday life. As Jilliane Velazco expressed, “I pray that their worship would not be limited to Tuesdays and Sundays, but that they would abide in Christ daily and grow in their maturity and nearness to Jesus.”
And if this past year is any indication, that work is already well underway.
We look forward to Metro’s return this upcoming August. If you are a young adult looking for genuine connection, a place to grow in your faith, and a community to walk alongside you, we invite you to join us. Whether you are new to the city or simply looking to get plugged in, Metro is a space where you can belong, be encouraged, and be sent out with purpose. Bring a friend, come expectant, and join us as we gather again this summer.
